At this year’s Annual Ponca Powwow, we want to take time each day to honor a fallen veteran. Poncas have a long and honorable history of military service. We are asking families of fallen veterans to contact the Powwow Committee and offer to let us raise their loved one’s flag on one of the three days of Powwow. On Saturday, we are raising the flag of SSgt Jordan Bear. SSgt Bear was killed in action in Afghanistan, and served with the 82nd Airborne.
Flag raising will be at 8:00 sharp every day. The families of those so honored are asked to provide a breakfast meal for the veterans in attendance at the flag raising. The Powwow Committee will help them as best we can with the meal. We will have an honor song for the veterans whose flag we are flying every day.
Additionally we are looking for veterans to help us create a color guard as well. Please think about helping us honor all our veterans of the Ponca Tribe. Contact Culture Director Dwight Howe with any additional questions at 402-857-3391.
