The Ponca Tribe of Nebraska, headquartered on their ancestral homelands in Niobrara, has been severely impacted by the recent flooding, along with other tribal nations and communities in the area. If you are interested in assisting the tribe with their recovery efforts, physical donations are being accepted at the Niobrara offices. Currently, the greatest need is water. The Tribe is also accepting donations via PayPal. For more information, please email email@example.com. #poncaflood2019poncatribe-ne.org.#poncaflood2019
With all the flooding that we have going on around our area, we ask you to exercise caution when venturing out and doing any cleanup. Be aware of local road conditions, and keep in mind that with many homes, businesses, and other buildings being destroyed, there are many unknown chemical and physical hazards to contend with. If you wish to volunteer to help with clean up, please contact your local police departments, Emergency Managers, shelter locations, etc. to see how you can assist. If you are going out to pick up and remove debris from your communities, here are some safety tips:
Another thing to keep in mind when picking up debris: It is a good idea to separate the debris in different piles, with one of those piles being hazardous materials. These materials will range from gas cans to household cleaners. Additionally, please remember is that some chemicals will react to others, so the best thing is to separate like items. Keep the gas cans with the gas cans, bleach with bleach, and so on. Thank you for any help you give, but please be careful, and when in doubt, ask.
